Startup

Problem: There is an Invalid System Time message when the program is started.

Answer: The system clock on the reader stops when both the main battery and an internal backup battery run out. (The backup battery is automatically recharged from the main battery and it can run on its own to maintain the system clock). When the system clock stops, it is reset to a start date when it is next powered up with a charged battery.

StockCheck has an invalid system time detector to prevent it from being used when the internal clock is invalid since it may not make sense to timestamp scans with invalid times. You just need to set the system time by tapping on the clock in the Windows Mobile task bar and restart the program.

Adding Cells

Problem: I'm not able to scan a new tag into the current worksheet.

Possible reasons:

1. StockCheck will only add a tag if it is unique to the entire file across all worksheets. If you want to duplicate a tag, you can copy the row from the worksheet where it is on and paste it into the worksheet you want, or do this in Excel on your computer. There is more information about duplicate tags on the Operational Notes page.

2. The Tools menu > Preferences > Worksheets tab > "Add new tags" option is turned off.

3. The user privilege "Can add rows" is turned off.

4. If there are metals or liquids in the vicinity, they may be interfering with the reader's ability to communicate with the tag.

5. The tag may be defective. You can try scanning another tag in the batch to check.

Problem: When I scan a new tag, more than one shows up.

Answer: The MC3090Z is a long range reader and if it is used for setup, tags should be sufficiently isolated. If this continues to be a problem, or if the process gets to be too tedious, some alternatives include using:

1. A low-power, low-range reader for setup. These come in desktop form factors that can be connected to a computer.

2. An RFID printer that can be used with labeling software to print and program labels that have embedded tags.

Deleting Cells

Problem: I'm not able to delete rows or worksheets.

Answer: The user privilege "Can delete rows" option is turned off.

Editing Cells

Problem: I can't edit some cells in StockCheck.

Possible reasons:

1. By design, the "Rfid Tag", "Last Scan" and "User Id" columns cannot be edited as these are maintained by StockCheck.

2. The user privilege "Can change cell contents" option is turned off.

Viewing Cells

Problem: I can't see some cells from the Excel file.

Answer: For each worksheet, StockCheck will only show cells in a contiguous "work area" that it looks for on startup. It first looks for for the "Rfid Tag" column header and then looks left, right and down to determine this "work area". All other cells are left alone for your use. There is more information about this on the Working with Excel page.

Scanning

Problem: I'm having trouble scanning a tag.

Possible reasons:

1. If there are metals or liquids in the vicinity, they may be interfering with the reader's ability to communicate with the tag.

2. The tag may be defective.

Problem: I have already set up my inventory lists and I don't want the StockCheck to add any new tags that are scanned.

Answer: You can go to the Tools menu > Preferences > Worksheets tab, and uncheck the "Add new tags" option to turn tag addition off.
